Baseball is Called "America's Favorite PASTIME" For a Reason!!!

I am more than tired of hearing about Union County's athletic programs and how disappointed people are with the coaches. Who freaking cares?!?!? It seems as though during the economic crisis our country is facing, people in this community have forgotten that football, basketball, baseball, softball, tennis, and whatever other form of sporting activity you want to throw in there are JUST GAMES!!!! Less than 1% of people in the entire country make a living off of sports!!
In the economy we are facing, we have all made adjustments. Many of us have lost jobs and are unable to replace them. Statistics show that the majority of the unemployed that are actively seeking employment and coming up empty are not educated enough for the available opportunities. "Educated" being the key word there. Some lack a high school diploma, and most lack a formal college education. The job field is a tough market right now, but the college educated and skilled workers are fairing better than most. The high school graduate who's claim to fame is the football or any other field....not so much.
So, for everyone that has posted something about the high school sports programs, this is for you. Are you aware that less than 3% of high school athletes receive college scholarships?
"The bottom line: only a small percentage of teenage jocks win athletic scholarships. According to the NCAA, only 2 percent of high school athletes, roughly 130,000 kids, bag a full or partial scholarship. An exhaustive New York Times analysis of athletic scholarships in 2008 determined that more than 1 million boys played football in high school, but only 28,299
received a scholarship in Division I or II. Girls faced adverse odds too. Moret han 600,000 competed in track and field (the most popular girls’ sport), but fewer than 10,000 won a scholarship that was worth an average of $8,100 a
year. The average amount awarded for all sports was $10,400, but students
could receive far, far less. That’s only about half the $21,400 an out-of-state
student would have to pay at the University of Florida. " CNN Money Maters
Now, do you think that the parents of our student athletes are in any shape to foot the bill for their child's very expensive college education? With the unemployment rate for Union County at an all-time high, I would be willing to bet that the majority of these students have a parent (or two) that either is, has been, or will soon be unemployed. Are you aware that more than 75% of college students receive academic scholarships? While you seem to be concerned with meaningless championship tiles, you should be worried about how well our children are doing in the classroom and not on the field. Our main concern regarding our school system should be how well our students are being educated, if our teachers meet our standards, if the learning environment is optimal, and what we can to to improve it. The education that our children receive is in direct correlation to the preservation of this town.
Surely you can see that in the last few years this town has all but become a wasteland. Businesses continue to close, home sales are stagnant, and jobs are non-existent. But, instead of being concerned with preparing our children properly and sending them to college to earn a degree so they may possibly return and revive our communities entire infrastructure, you are more concerned with your Friday night football game. Bravo. What a freaking genius you are.
If only 3% of students in the entire country are receiving an education funded by athletic scholarships and 75% + are receiving one on academic scholarships, then why is so much emphasis, in this community, placed on the athletic program?!?!? Cancel it all together and use the massive amounts of money allocated for athletics on academics instead!! If you think for a single minute that a pointless championship title will put this dying town on the map you are dead wrong. The only things this community is being remembered for are corruption and a massive amount of unemployed people, neither of which can be resolved until we start demanding better decisions and planning from our leaders and better education for our children. Sports are a hobby. Education is mandatory.

TITANIC GETS READY TO SAIL

Well folks, the Titanic had its official ribbon cutting ceremony at the Timken baseball complex and has now started to pull out from the harbor. As you know we are all on this ship together. Some of us will survive, others of us are going down with the ship. There it was, shinning in all its grander. All the dignitaries came-about 275 of them. They talked about how much better it was than the ships they had played on and how the future generations of Union citizens would benefit. Many of them enjoyed, "free" food on you the tax payer---by the way, you were not allowed to come, this was just for the, "important" people. As we are now sailing through iceberg infested waters we must be vigilant. These same folks never considered the high taxation and the destruction of their policies of, we are in the ice fields but we are steaming full speed ahead. Oh heck we just hit a berg. Oh no, we have a causality, The Yellow Jacket Buffet is closing due to heavy taxation due to the baseball complex. Oh no, we understand the renter of this building will not get his rent this year costing him an estimated 24,000. And the city of Union will loose the taxes and utilities as revenue forcing them to tax you more. Yes, the casualties are starting to increase. Wait lets try to find the dignitaries. Did they stay for the ball game? No, they left leaving the stands empty on opening day. Just like the Titanic the dignitaries saved themselves from the cold waters and took refuge in warm blankets at other locations. You the tax payer are on your own. Can you survive? Don't look to those dignitaries, they bailed out. Now you will have to bail yourself and the water is coming in faster every day.

in response to todays post about administrative salaries in the school system heres a few more

Lipsey, David    Teacher    Union County School District    $70,207.00

almost 30 years as a coach with a winning record of 140 something and 90 something and he manages to land the hc job at uc making 70k a year, i wouldnt let lipsey cut my grass

Palmer, Eugene    Principal    Union County School District    $78,456.00

78k he was my principal at buffalo elementary school in the 80's and this is all they paying him now? he should be making over 100k for all his years in the system, i guess hes not part of the IN CROWD, that usually happens when your good to people and dont do others wrong or treat others as less than you

Massey, Michael    Teacher    Union County School District    $79,878.00

caused every volunteer we had on the football team and cross country team to quit, caused people to not even try out for the cross country team, his decisions regarding the football team has cause players to not try out, boosters to stop funding the team, and hes conspired against at least 2 people whos spoke out against him, using his power against them causing them to wash thier hands with the program completely, and thats pretty bad since they were both volunteers and spent time and money on the program only to be slapped in the face

theres nothing like a good old union edumacation

all this information can be found here #HYPERLINK "http://www.goupstate.com/article/20090215/DATA/902120256?appSession=473140559085127&RecordID=&PageID=2&PrevPageID=1&cpipage=2&CPISortType=&CPIorderBy=

Hey all... We all know that the Yellow Jacket is kind of a crappy restaurant inside. But,a lot of us also know that the food was good. I regret to tell everyone that we where told this week Sunday is their last day (2-28-2010). They will be missed by many. This is the fate of over paid officials and over priced taxes and utilities.Like a lot of small towns we are losing more then just a few jobs. We are losing tax money from those businesses. As well as all ther other businesses that are leaving Union. And, the more that leave, the more of us that feel that we can raise our children here will have to compensate. In taxes and all other cost. IE: gas, utilities, groceries, and things at the store that you love to shop at,(Wal-mart) for most in Union. Even though they are higher than the Wal-marts in Spartanburg or Gaffney. I just do not understand how we a small community can pay
Eubanks = $127,150 Superintendent
Lewis Jeter = $89,781 Assist. Superintendent
Jane Wilkes = $89,958 Over Math ???? Really!!!
Dale Goff = $88,523 Over Elementary Schools
Cindy Langley = $82,479 secondary education
Lynn Lawson = $86,027 Finance officer
What happen to the world??? Do we not know that the more we pay employees. The more we have to pay out for things. Take Gm the unions get their employees $20 a hour to unload 4 trucks in 8 hours. So we now pay $30,000 to $50,000 for a vehicle. Why do you think people buy from KIA and like companies.

READING THE ARTICLE FORWARD THINKING GOT ME TO START FORWARD THINKING

In the following link you can read about what got me to start to forward thinking:

http://www.uniondailytimes.com/view/full_story/6480901/article-Forward-thinking?instance=secondary_news_left_column

But what I started thinking about was the civic center. As you can see from the article we will spend 3 million dollars on a tech center and it has 14,000 square feet or 214 dollars a sq. ft. Now the civic center is to be 25,000 sq. ft. By those same calculations we should pay 5, 350,000 for the civic center or 2.5 times its estimated cost. Now if I am wrong why did we pay so much for this tech. center? Did the land cost that much more? I do remember Donnie bought the land for what some believe was too much? Who did he buy it from? Maybe that drove up the cost. Anyway, it stated that we now were going to pay 180,000 a year to keep up the tech. center. At that rate the civic center should cost us 360,000 dollars a year to keep up. I don't know about all this folks I just got to forward thinking.

In support of the 2-25-2010 post concerning the closing of the "Lunchbox". We were saddened to hear of the loss of the "Lunchbox". Some might say or think , so what?? Wake up folks! As minimal as this loss might seem, it is"a great loss" for the struggling small business people, who are just trying to make an honest living and to provide a service to our community.
Think about it !! One by one by one, we have lost the industrial and manufacturing opportunities in our City/County. Bare with me now, a few points. Firstly, there is not nearly enough industrial/manufacturing base in Union City/County to support(pay for the services that a County or municipality) normally provides for it's population, much less support/pay for rightly deserved, needed and wanted niceties, such as an Arts Center. Secondly, utility costs were mentioned as part of what helped put the "Lunchbox" out of business. Can any other of us relate to this?? I know that my household can! Whatever happened to the "Peak Shaving Plant"(at Times Blvd.)that was purchased by "Our City"(during the Morgan/City Council administration)?? I don't have anything, except memory but I understood, that this purchase was supposed to help city utility customers, financially, not only during times of peak electrical use in Summer or Winter but that, it would manufacture electricity in between these times that would then be sold to Lockhart, Duke power, etc. to help offset costs for city utility customers. Am I the only person who remembers this??
If there are others who remember this, please let us know. Maybe, we should pose this question to our current Mayor/Financial Director/Council?? Lastly, think about it Folks!!
When,a County/City has no tax/license revenues coming in from it's Industrial/Business base, where do YOU think it will come from?? Let me go out on a limb here and make a prediction!! It will be City/County, property owning residents(under age 65,who have no homestead exemption) and whatever industry and or small business that still exists here!!
Why do our current City Mayor,Council/County Council/Development Board not seem to realize and or act to correct this reality??

2/26/2010

I was doing some research on our School Administration Office salaries and duties and was floored by the information I found.
In addition to Mike Anthony’s salary of $57,000 as spokesman for our district there are others in the Administration office that are milking our system. We have 5 people in Admin. making over $80,000 a year . Yes!! 5
Eubanks = $127,150 Superintendent
Lewis Jeter = $89,781 Assist. Superintendent
Jane Wilkes = $89,958 Over Math ???? Really!!!
Dale Goff = $88,523 Over Elementary Schools
Cindy Langley = $82,479 secondary education
Lynn Lawson = $86,027 Finance officer
Folks that's a total of $563,918 for 6 people!! Goff & Langley also have assistants that work for them that I was unable to find their salaries. So we need to pay Goff, Wilkes and Langley piles of money to basically teach our teachers how to teach!!...... Really!! Well what the heck is our Superintendents job?? Shouldn't he be getting what our teachers need from the State and then passing it along to our school Principles and have them pass it to our teachers?
If the school budget is to be cut, it better start with these people above taking server cuts in pay and not our teachers who could probably do a better job if the above would leave them the heck alone and let them teach their way. They mostly sit up there and try to come up with something that would justify their position. Most have near 30 years in teaching and should be retired already! I did not know Union County could afford these type salaries!! It’s just another example of good
ole boy politics in Union. I wish the owners of this site would look into this more and really dig.

SC STATE LEGISLATURE LOOKS TO BE TURNING TO TIME FOR TRUTH

As we told you these are the best of times and you can see in the following link it is going to get much worse. Now those in low income will have to pick up more of the tab. While I feel for low income and many are very good people it has come to my attention that many in Union believe the city, county and school board and have blindly followed them down to house of economic slaughter While many were, "getting buy" finically and going along with all of this, "free stuff" They will no longer be able to turn a blind eye as now they will shoulder more burden because the free stuff will create and economic tsunami that we told you about for over a year now. So low income folks expect a major meltdown on your wallet due to the economic polices of free spenders all over the state especially those here in Union. See link:

I DID NOT VOTE FOR DAVID TAYLOR

I have probably told this story before but here I go again folks. I listened to his positions and felt he was very qualified. I sure wasn't going to vote for Wells. We know his story and stories unknown. I felt Gault was qualified and he and Taylor were equal. When folks asked me what I thought of Taylor I said I thought he would make a great sheriff. He seems to know the law and seems to have the county's best interest. I voted for Gault because they were equal and I knew more about Gault that being the only thing to sway me. If I didn't think Gault qualified I would have voted for Taylor even though I knew more about Gault. Here is my point folks. We have to stop voting for people that look good, that talk good, that we know, that we can use or we can get a favor from. We need to vote for honest folks that will do the right thing. We don't need to bad mouth folks that take the high road and want to help us. You see I believe many in government today want to use us. I believe many of our, "friends" will misinform us to keep their guy in power which will destroy this economy. They will try to undermine good candidates. I could have made up stuff about Taylor to get Gault into the office. I would not do that. And I am very pleased that Taylor is now sheriff. On another note there are candidates that will steep up to the plate because it is the right thing to do to stop the abuse. There is still much that needs to be done in Union and a clean sweep is what we need. So remember these government folks that are in power now. And if you think being 19th worst in the nation is a good thing, you might need to have your head examined.

some people in union just don’t get it, last night i saw on facebook where a woman was talking about she wanted to kick someone’s @## for posting about the uc sports overall quality, she went on to say the person who posted what they did were not in the know and knew nothing of the situation and how a particular coach (her husband) spent so much time and effort on the program

what people fail to realize is this, no matter how much blood sweat and tears you put into something, at the end of the day the object is to win, so just because you dedicate your life to a less than mediocre sports team, at the end of the day you didnt coach it well enough because they were not winning region upperstae or state titles

and another thing, we also have a lot of people who think that if a coach is a good christian man and goes to church every sunday that you shouldn’t speak negatively about his team when hes coached them to a 6-7, 7-6. 8-4 record, well going to church every sunday dosent make you a shell dula, you have to earn that on the field

and until these yahoos stop going with the good ole boy system implementing people like lipsey, or going with massey as the ad, we will continue to see our teams amount to squat

basketball, football, baseball, wrestling, what have they done? had we not closed those other schools down we wouldn’t have fared to well in football the past couple years, the upperstate contender team that played chester in 08 was all jonesville athletes, with the big ole union boys on the line

the booster club president resigned, we lost coaches left and right in all sports, the reserved booster seating is half of what it was, the stands overall are only 60 percent full tops, it all starts at the top with massey and trickles down

take out the trash and return UC to the glory days
2/25/2010
super eubanks drops the ball on buffalo elementary spending, bought some brand new fluorescent lights and fixtures throughout the building to save money, only problem is led lighting is ten times more efficient and cost so much less to operate that they barely make a bill at all

they emit no heat and are brighter as well, maybe if we weren’t behind the times here in union wed get some real advanced technology, and all those diesel school buses we have and we aren’t purchasing any bio diesel gas either, it’s like half price and emits hardly any emissions at all since its mostly french fry grease and not sulfur based like traditional diesel

Dear Friends,
Thank you for taking your time to open this email. I have been employed by Calhoun Falls Charter School as a Social Studies teacher this school year. This is a really awesome little school! I very much enjoy working here, and would like to continue to do so. I would appreciate it if you would contact your legislators and ask them to support the Charter School Bill. Our funding has gone from 11,000 per student to 1,700 per student. The Charter School Bill would, in essence, mean that our children's education would be funded no matter where they attend school. These kids deserve equal access to education. use this link to look up your legislator's contact information. Charter schools work, and they make sense! EDUCATION is the priority, not spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on administration! look up your legislator!
Thank you for your support!
PLEASE POST AND FORWARD!

TIME FOR TRUTH MAKES MAJOR PREDICTION--DON'T BE FOOLED

As you know Mike has been feasting on the tax payers for so long it has helped drive the state into an economic disaster. Since the school has announced that they will now have to cut 6 million dollars from the budget it will be announced that Mike has "resigned "his position as school spokesperson for the good of the community. This will be announced in the near future which will be hyped up by the media to make it look like Mike is taking the high road so he can get reelected. You see Mike knows the ax is getting ready to fall and so to make folks think he is doing the right thing by, "resigning" he will look like the hero not a zero. Well, don't be fooled folks. He is getting ready to loose his job and remember he milked this cash cow for all it was worth and he got the very last bit of cream he could from it. Also it was your cow so don't be fooled. Don't vote for Mike tell him to take a hike.

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT

We always want folks to write in with correct information or set the record straight. It has come to our attention that Mr. English was not on council prior to the voting of the AFB building. Since he did not vote for that he was not responsible for the purchase. However, since he is a council member I see it as his responsibility to question the purchase after he became council member and all the upgrades associated with the building. As you are aware Mr. English was an enabler of Betenbaugh. They were tied in very tight as evidence of Mr. English going along with all these issues we have mentioned. Also it is understood that English and Betenbaugh were tied into financial transactions regards to real estate purchases and sales. So thanks for drawing attention to the dates and the information.

MELTDOWN

Well folks as we told you a popular "Main St." restaurant has closed. Not enough profit, too much overhead, in regard to power bills we understand. Maybe they got smart and decided to bail out because they knew how the civic center was going to up their cost. Now the city will not get those tax dollars and they will have to look at the rest of us to fill the void. So say good by to the Lunch Box and hello to another vacant building near Main. Who will be next--stay tuned for more MELTDOWN brought to you by your community, "leaders" and those that support their policies.
MIKE STEVENS I HEARD YOU WERE RIDING THE FENCE

Mike, I didn't have the radio on but heard some woman called in and said something about folks just trying to make trouble or something like that. Mike this was your opportunity to ask her just who she had an issue with. Press your audience Mike. The best way to educate the public is sometimes deal with a difficult person and then the normal folks can see how illogical the person making the statement is. What can anyone in this county point to and defend that has made a positive impact on this county in the last 3 years? Let us hear how anything that has been done has brought revenue into the county or made a positive impact. If you are right we will agree. OK folks sharpen your minds we are standing by.

I WOULD LIKE TO STATE, SOME PEOPLE BELIEVE THEMSELVES TO "KNOW" MORE ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE & LIVES THAN WHAT THEY ACTUALLY TRULY KNOW, YET THEY STILL CHOOSE TO KEEP STIRRING (THE MORE YOU STIR ---THE MORE IT STINKS)!
APPARENTLY MY LAST POST WAS MISCONCEIVED,MISINTERPRETED, MISUNDERSTOOD BY SOME...
- I STATED, IT TAKES TIME FOR SOMEONE WITH A PHYSICAL DISABILITY TO GET SOME THINGS DONE. I NEVER CLAIMED TO BE COMPLETELY DISABLED,THOUGH SOME PEOPLE DO AND STILL (UN REPORTEDLY, UNDER EVERYONES NOSE) WORK ON A DAILY BASIS, WEATHER IT BE BABYSITTING,SITTING WITH AN ELDERLY PERSON, DELIVERING NEWSPAPERS, CONSTRUCTION, CARPENTRY,ETC.)------- DON'T THEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- I STATED, MR. COWARD ISN'T "MAYOR OF MONARCH"------------I VOTED FOR JOEY. COME ON PEOPLE ( SOME REALLY TAKE THINGS & RUN WITH IT) DOES MAYOR OF MONARCH = COUNTY COUNCIL? MAYOR OF MONARCH IS NOT ON THE BALLOT! IT'S OBVIOUS SOME PEOPLE DON'T RECOGNIZE SARCASM VERY WELL!!!!!
- I NEVER STATED, IF I DID OR DID NOT VOTE JOEY FOR COUNCIL, I MERELY EXPRESSED MY OPINION OF JOEY AS A LANDLORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BELIEVE ME--- I DIDN'T INTEND TO GET INTO POLITICS, THOUGH I WOULD LIKE TO POINT OUT, THE AMERICAN FEDERAL BUILDING WAS BOUGHT IN EARLY (MARCH/APRIL) OF 2005. JOEY WAS VOTED IN SEPTEMBER 2005!
I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO STATE IT'S NOT ONLY THE PEOPLE OF MONARCH VOTING FOR POPULARITY, ETC. UNFORTUNATELY, YOU WILL FIND THAT EVERYWHERE!!!
HOWEVER, I WILL ASK YOU TO THINK ABOUT THIS: WHO/WHAT MAKES THESE PEOPLE POPULAR?
I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SAY TO THE PERSON THAT WROTE THE POST TITLED: MR. HENDRIX, THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPECTFULLY WRITTEN POST!
AND ALSO, THANKS FOR THE BACK UP ADAMSBURG AREA!!!!!!!!!!!!
STILL... NO ONE CHOOSES TO WRITE THEIR
NAMES, WHAT'S GOING ON?

WHAT DID THE MAYOR SAYS OR DOES HE JUST BABBLE?

bab·ble

1.
to utter sounds or words imperfectly, indistinctly, or without meaning.
2.
to talk idly, irrationally, excessively, or foolishly; chatter or prattle.
3.
to make a continuous, murmuring sound.

See the following link:

http://www.uniondailytimes.com/view/full_story/6437130/article-Work-moving-forward-on-arts-center-?instance=secondary_stories_left_column

Now notice he looks to state: that within a year we will have an art center unless we have complications that would slow this project down.

Can we say 6 million dollar loss to the school system?

At what point does Thompson not understand the seriousness of the economic conditions we find ourselves. Would a meteor hitting him in the head bring to light the condition of the county? You begin to wonder about the mental stability of those in our government.

2/24/2010
MELTDOWN

As everyone can see Union County is in a meltdown. We tried to explain who, what, where and when. And it has all come true. See how your school district is about to loose 6 million dollars. Did you see it coming? Did you prepare? How about Mike Anthony school board? Are you going to keep him on while all the other teachers loose their jobs. Here was a perfect time for Mike to be a spokesperson that we pay him to be. Again no words from Mike in the following link.

http://www.uniondailytimes.com/view/full_story/6449270/article-Finance-director-paints-difficult-picture-that-includes-district-working-with-less-funding-in-FY-2010-11?instance=home_news_lead

And when you look at the quotes from the school board it just baffles me with the garbley gook that comes out. Well, let me not baffle you. Teachers you are going to get pay cuts and some will loose jobs. You now will have a 6.8 million dollar baseball complex and a 3 million dollar civic center to keep up. You will continue to see your taxes go up to keep these projects afloat. Union is in an economic meltdown and your school board, mayor, supervisor, city and county council are going to melt you down further. So get ready because these are the best of times.
2/24/2010
STRIKE OUT AT THE TIMKEN BASEBALL COMPLEX

Yes, folks they are starting to pull out even before they get here. You are going to see more of this due to several factors. Due to the continued economic conditions around the state and the fact that other counties are upgrading their baseball complexes you will see Union compete for those teams. Therefore, you can expect less revenue than at first thought and fewer teams coming to Union. So get ready to eat this project on your taxes folks. And don't forget it was to be a 1.5 million dollar project not a 6.8 million. I think they will need to taxes us 4.5 times more on this project to pay for this project. Can we say strike out? See the following link:

http://www.uniondailytimes.com/view/full_story/6449235/article-Dixie-Softball-pulls-two-age-groups-from-play-at-complex-?instance=secondary_news_left_column

MR. HENDRIX!
THANK GOD!!! FOR THE HUMANS, THAT LEAVE THEIR NAME. YOU’VE ALWAYS BEEN A GOOD FRIEND.. IF YOU NEED SOME LOVE FROM THE ADAMSBURG AREA, JUST CALL ON ME BROTHER!!!!!! HATS OFF! THANK GOD FOR STANDING UP! MUCH RESPECT! DO IT JOHNNY!

2/24/2010
MR. HENDRIX

I see you feel Mr. English is a good landlord. I have no idea whether he is or is not. I am glad to see you stand by your beliefs. You seem to believe he is and that is ok too. We hope Mr. English is good to all his tenants. However, I can only go on the things that I know about and understand. Mr. English was a strong supporter of Bentenbaugh--the person who took this county for a ride. Like the old, and young, the unemployed, the disabled, etc., and so forth. Mr. English was right along with him voting to spend tax money on projects that are destroying this county. Can you say 22% unemployment and 19th worst in the USA, and declining population by the thousands. So while you feel he is a good landlord do the right thing for yourself and the county and vote for someone else this time. His track record speaks for itself and that is something no one can change.

2/24/2010
THOMPSON ON THE CIVIC CENTER

In the following link you can see what the mayor has to say about the civic center. As you know TFT has told you this would be a 3 million dollar project to build and about 120,000 a year to keep up. Your mayor indicates it will come in under 2 million. TFT would also like to say that parking looks like a problem for the civic center. If the parking problem is to be eliminated watch and see your city spend another 100,000 on parking issues. Mayor Thompson want to build his legacy but it looks like the one he is going to build is one of financial disaster. TFT predicts he will tax his way out of it on your tax dollar.

2/24/2010

Union is a great place to live and raise children??? Right! A place that have the highest unemployment in the upstate, no jobs, no good sit down restaurants, no entertainment...nothing! Is that why 7% of people move out of here each year? Get real!

2/23/2010
Although I did not write the post about Joey English, I would like to say, you should not be proud that you voted for Mr. English for Council. As a matter of fact I wouldn’t tell anybody. No matter how great he is as a landlord he is a pitiful councilman and has cost the taxpayers of this county enormously. His lack of consideration for the taxpayers is appalling to say the least. Do you realize as long as he has been on the council he has voted for whatever the former Supervisor wanted no matter what the costs? Just take the Sports Complex, English really showed his lack of ability when he and the rest of council did not know where the money was being spent from the beginning to the end of the project.
Mr. English sure has Monarch fooled that
is why he is running for council again. He knows that the people in the Monarch area will vote based on popularity not ability. Until folks start voting for the person that can produce and perform instead of the guy that they like or even feel sorry for, then we can never expect this county to get out of the rut we are in!
Just ask yourself; what has English done the entire time he has been on County Council, look at what was going on right under his nose.

IN REGARDS TO THE COWARD THAT THOUGHT IT WOULD BE DECENT TO PUT MY HOME ADDRESS ON THIS SITE...LET ME START BY STATING, JOEY ENGLISH IS NOT "THE WORST LANDLORD IN THE WORLD" OR EVEN UNION COUNTY!!! YES, YOU ARE RIGHT THIS PROPERTY DOES NEED TO BE CLEANED OUTSIDE, AND I'M WORKING ON THAT. JOEY ENGLISH UNDERSTANDS NOT EVERYONE HAS MONEY TO GO OUT, AND BUY A NEW SOMETHING BECAUSE THE OLD NEEDS TO BE FIXED, AND EVERYONE CAN'T AFFORD TO GET IT FIXED RIGHT AWAY, OR HIRE SOMEONE TO DO THIS OR THAT FOR US. JOEY ALSO UNDERSTANDS WHEN YOU HAVE A PHYSICAL DISABILITY, IT TAKES TIME TO GET THINGS DONE. JOEY ALSO UNDERSTANDS THAT TENANTS ARE REAL PEOPLE TOO!!! THIS IS ONLY, PART OF WHAT MAKES JOEY A GOOD (CERTAINLY ONE OF THE BETTER) LANDLORDS IN UNION COUNTY!!!
-WHERE YOU EVER A TENANT TO JOEY, OR ANY LANDLORD FOR THE MATTER (I DOUBT IT)?
-HAVE YOU READ MINE AND JOEY'S RENTAL CONTRACT (PROBABLY NOT)?
-DO YOU LIVE IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD (I DOUBT IT)?
-DO YOU EVEN KNOW ME (DIDN'T THINK SO)?
WE WOULDN'T KNOW ANY OF THIS, BECAUSE YOU COWARDLY CHOSE AGAINST WRITING YOUR NAME!
THOUGH, YOU DID CHOSE TO WRITE MY HOME ADDRESS.
SO TELL ME, MR. COWARD, DO YOU MIND WRITING YOUR HOME ADDRESS, SO WE CAN ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO RIDE VERY SLOWLY BY SCOPING OUT YOUR HOME(TRYING TO SEE WHAT WE CAN)?
WILL YOU BE LOOKING IN MY WINDOWS NEXT? SHOULD I PULL THE BLINDS? NO. NO I WON'T
, I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO HIDE, UNLIKE SOME!!!
AS FOR HOW THE PROPERTY WAS SOLD------IF IT MEANT SO MUCH TO THE "RELATIVE", WHY DIDN'T THIS RELATIVE HELP KEEP THE PROPERTY OUT OF FORECLOSURE?
ANYWAY, WHO MADE YOU MAYOR OF MONARCH.......... I VOTED FOR JOEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AND YES, I DO AGREE, WE SHOULD ALL PRAY FOR THE EVIL PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD!!!!!!
PLEASE ALLOW ME TO WRITE MY NAME: JONATHAN HENDRIX

In this past week's UDT, we read that our incumbent and "INCOMPENTENT" county council fails to come through again. So much indecision and inability!!.They can only come to consensus!! Therefore, they will ask the County delegation to do their job concerning an outdated law from the 1940's to end a stalemate with our Wallace Thomson Hospital board(and it's sitting physicians). We also read(thank GOD)that common sense has prevailed, with no response(from our higher judicial system)to councilman English's motion and with the entire council's approval to spend to spend $20K plus on a previously failed referendum. At this point in time, we do not need a more expensive form of County Government. We just need some true "PATTRIOTS", such as Gen. Sinclair and Capt.Gault, to run for, not only county council but Mayor & city council also. I hope and pray that the General will consider being on the ballot to continue as County Supervisor. I encourage "TRUE PATTRIOTS", those who truly, want to serve and make a positive difference, without personal gain, power or status, to get involved!
I believe that we (Our City and County) are at a crossroad, at which there might be no return, if we do not recruit and elect true, positve leadership within our County/City and State representation!!

Whether there is agreement or disageement, with this writer, Union is a great place to live and rear children. I pray that we can progress and preserve UNION COUNTY!

DOES JOEY UNDERSTAND ENGLISH

We understand that Joey English plans on running for county council again. Maybe he doesn't understand English but we do. We think that he should not be put back in for the following reasons. We understand it was he that: voted to buy the American Federal Building which was valued around 250,000 and purchased with your money for 450,000 and the building now has close to 800,000 in it due to upgrades.
He went along with the baseball complex from a 1.5 million dollar project to an almost 6.6 million dollar project without questioning cost overruns. -yes folks it is going on up.
He was engaged with personal financial transactions with the Betenbaugh family in regard to homes.
He has been on council therefore he has had a hand in helping our county become the 19th worst in the nation according to some reports.
And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Ask yourself in plain English. Is this the candidate you would want holding your wallet? In any language my answer is no, nein, non, na, nyet----are your crazy?

it is indeed the coaching in union, the jv and 9th grade football teams go undefeated or lose 1-2 games, when they make it to varsity they lose 5-6 games, its the coaching

basketball, they had a losing record this year, same coach for the last 15 years, its the coaching, oh and the 9th grade football team running a different offense and defense than the jv and varsity don’t help things either

it all stems from the same problem, the athletic director, hes the reason so many coaches and volunteers have left, and he wasn’t even a good cross country coach when he coached, he ran all his volunteers and assistants off with his evil doings

STEP UP TO THE PLATE PEOPLE AND TIP

Many of the waitresses are trying to get by and pay their heating bills, car bills and high taxes. Many of you have money. Many of you folks are, "incrowd" people. Where is your compassion for the least of these? Make a waitress day. Set down a 20 dollar bill. Spread the love, kindness and a helping hand. Maybe some waitresses have less education than you. Maybe they don't have a fancy car or home. Have you ever thought that they may have dreams too. Maybe you can be the spark that helps them feed their child or buys some medicine. Show some love this month and tip your waitress extra. Open your heart and your wallet not just your mouth when you go and eat.

I have never written anything for TFT but, I am a follower of the news. This has been good for Union co. You still have to use common sense when reading the articles.
I don't think the High School teams are as bad as you say. I think that Union county need a better little league program. If you look at Greer they have an excellent beginner program. They get the parents involved at the beginning. This support continues through there entire education process. I am a strong believer that no father or mother should coach there children. Sometimes this is not possible, but should be strived for.

Hello, I work in a restaurant here in Union and I have a request of the general public. Firstly, I want to provide an appropriate mentality of the restaurant setting. I have cooks, delivery drivers (as if that doesn't give it away), fellow managers, cashiers, and a wait staff. I won't lie to you and say that my employees are perfect. I won't lie to you and say that my employees work hard all of the time. However, I do have a select group that goes above and beyond. These are the waitresses and waiters that give everything they have to offer to make sure you have a decent dining experience. Not to sound clichéd, but good help is hard to find. That is why I am in fear of losing my best because of my customers. I watch these certain employees rush making drinks and try to make conversation with my customers. I watch them come into the kitchen very frequently and put their own appetizers into the oven to ensure timing. Then we find a barrage of waitresses storming the kitchen demanding for their different items. It is needless to say that sometimes tempers in our restaurant get out of control. But, most of the time their diligence pays off and my customers have drinks, appetizers, and food to eat in a timely manner. Then when the bill is paid, my wait staff returns to their table and find nothing. They find one dollar after serving 16 people. They find a mountain of change on a $52 tab. These are people, with feelings, personalities, and most importantly, bills. Just like everyone else, my employees have "needs" and "wants". The "wants" have taken the backseat for so long that they are nonexistent now. When the "needs" of my elite are not being met, I am angered. It's a common courtesy, it's a tradition, and it's a practice that no one is too good to practice. Tip your waitress please, they have children, bills, and even dreams (wow go figure).

Is it time for Sinclair to start reviewing the Union County payroll and see if names come up that he DOES not know what they do. It is crunch time for the taxpayers and Sinclair should review every expense and every worker. Stop handing out money , making new jobs and JUST SAY NO/ .More money given out has to stopped. Sinclair stop being a good 'ole boy giving jobs out, handing money out whoever asks and review the payroll, General, sir.

ME AND MINE ARE IMPORTANT-BY MIKE ANTHONY

In the 2-15-2010 of the Union County News Mike tells us exactly what I think. I understand Mike to say his and his stuff are important to -----him. He states that he is proud of Sinclair and Gault for stepping up in our time of need and seems to emphasize this is the right thing to do. Then I say to myself, yes Sinclair is working for a 1.00 yes dollar working, I'll say 45 hours a week and Mr. Anthony in his school spokesperson job. (you know the one that i can't see he is doing anything but taking up space) gets a 60,000 dollar pay and I don't know if he puts in any hours per week on this job. To date no one has come forward to justify this position. In the end Mike says if it hurts me and mine then it is important. Well Mike it is important to me that you resign your job as school spokesperson. As I see it the poor folks of Union County are tired of keeping you up when you make about 60,000 on your retirement and rep job giving you a combined salary of 120,000 which take about 150,000 dollars of work to give you a paycheck. And then you go on to be what I consider hypocritical saying your eyes have been open. Well, glad they have opened up but from what I see they have been closed for the last 8 years. So as for me and mine we will not vote for you and yours

CONGRATULATIONS TO ROXIE BELUE

Ms Belue is now the first female detective we have had in Union County. TFT would like to congratulate you on your accomplishments. We hope that you will always remember that protect and serve also means honesty, integrity, compassion, understating, patience, kindness, gentleness, strength and courage, etc. So may God keep you safe as you keep us safe and hope these words will always be in the back of your mind as you do your daily duties.

CHARLES WARNER COMES OUT OF HYDEING AND GIVES IT TO EM WITH BOTH BARRELS

IN THE 2-11-2010 issue of the UDT in the editorial section I am going to assume the article, "The most appropriate punishment," was written by Charles Hyde Warner. I have to say this really was an outstanding article that is worth reading by all citizens of Union. I hope this will be posted online for all to see. It looks like Hyde Warner has started reading TFT and is starting to see the light. Hopefully, he will take a stance for the folks in Union and be on the right side from now on. The sad thing is it shouldn't have taken a court and a guilty plea for the UDT to take a stance against the evils that have been done to the people of Union. It has been going on for years and there is still much more house cleaning that needs to be done.

what is it about union that makes the powers to be keep these coaches who never win titles and rarely win region championships

football, basketball, baseball, wrestling, all 4 are way below other schools standards but we continue to keep these coaches wen they dont perform, so are we playing every one gets a trophy day or are we competing for state titles you tell me

knocked out first round article below

http://www.uniondailytimes.com/view/full_story/6378022/article-Jackets-knocked-out-in-1st-round-?instance=secondary_sports_left_column

The loss marks the end of the Yellow Jackets season who finish with a 11-13 overall record.

the wrestling team go the hell beat out of them the other week as well

this is just unacceptable, and lets not forget about the state championship banners from union jonesville and lockhart being taken down and the ad saying they would put them back up later when in fact the superintendent said they could not go back up

and since hes leaving in the summer for a new job they will finally get to put them back up, completely different than the story massey is giving, and we all know massey is part of the problem as well

the athletic director is responsible for weeding out the bad coaches and hiring new ones, but hey he wasent too good of a coach either and we made him the ad, thats pathetic lol

I have not lived in Union for almost 20 years, but when I did there was always talk of the corruption there. The #1 thing I would love to know is where did these drugs that were stored at the Tax Assessors office come from? Could these drugs have been from the police dept? It’s bad enough that your officials have had a free for all with your tax dollars, but to put drugs on the street is just beyond all. Like Union needs more drugs on the street.

I understand we pay this person 66,000 per year not the 5,500 as reported as I understand this is per month. Please enlighten me if I am wrong. Obviously this person hasn't performed and as we see we are 19th from the bottom in the nation. This person must go. Who supports this? General Sinclair time for you to pull rank and dump this dud. This is one bomb you can defuse by yourself--thanks General.

BETENBAUGH PLEADS GUILT FEBRUARY 10,2010

WE HAVE EXPOSED BETENBAUGH AS A CORRUPT POLITICIAN

HE IS A CONVICTED FELON

PER U.S.ATTORNEY KEVIN McDONALD
2/14/2010
I'm just interested in how many rental properties Brad Morris and his family or in-laws own that were supposed to be sold on the Court House steps as Forclosure Property?

Same Question for the Betenbaughs how many rental properties do they own and how did they get them, On the Court House Steps or before

Maybe when Donnie starts trying to talk himself out of 39 charges he'll tell us how all this crooked stuff works so it want happen again

Recently there were some comments made about Bill Randal and his involvement with the corruption in Union County. There were also some comments made about the relationship he has with a family member. We cannot assume what anyone’s actual feelings are therefore, we sometimes speculate and our tongues can be rigid.
Our county seems to be infuriated with Mr. Randall and how he handled the situation that in turn allowed Betenbaugh to get off so lightly. Not so fast, we have got to be patient and trust those in charge of the investigation and prosecution.
They are professionals and know what they are doing. To some Mr. Randall should not serve much, if any time because he was an employee of the county and not elected. If he was such a devious and bad person that the defense portrays, then why didn’t the former Supervisor take care of him a long time ago. No, what Betenbaugh did was fuel the fire because he could, and he got greedy and did not care what ethics and morals were being violated right inside the courthouse. The entire situation was a bad one for Union County and the people who will suffer for years to come. We must move on and remember we have a county to attend to and in order to do so we must be aware of the circumstances around us. We cannot just let go, we must pay attention to what is going on and stand up and speak out when we believe there is a problem. We must get involved and participate whatever the task at hand because if we do not we can expect this level of corruption to continue in Union.
As far as Mr. Randall goes, he can either be a hero for this county or a villain; we must pray that he does the right thing. Every person had a purpose in God’s eyes and we must pray that this hold’s true in the corruption scandal.
With money comes power, with power comes money and with all that comes greed. There was only one person who had to ability to stop what was going on and it was Donnie Betenbaugh, instead he chose to adhere, cooperate and enable those people like Bill Randall whom we want to blame so badly. Therefore Betenbaugh was 100% to blame for what happened within our County, so we have him to thank for our troubles. Had he been the honorable leader that we voted into office the first time around he could have lead Mr. Randall in the right direction and helped him with his misgivings instead he chose to enable him.
Don’t be so upset with Bill Randall because he was chosen by Betenbaugh to run the Assessor’s office. Betenbaugh could have and should have been the leader instead he chose to be an accomplice, which makes him the problem.

well it didnt take long for the truth to rise back up, glad to see you guys back on, heres my first post on the new site

why get the website shut down? because people are afraid of the truth, people just cant handle it and they also dont like it when its pertaining to them and their corruptness

keep on pounding that hammer time for truth, and make sure you guys get on the facebook as well

The FBI was born at night but not last night, Go to WBCU radio web site and read the plea agreement Donnie had to sign, initial each page and know he is got. Donnie must reveal any illegal activity of the past he has knowledge to, cooperate fully and take polygraph tests. Donnie knows he is lucky this one time, so why would he be going against the FBI now, got him. And just think of his partners in crime how they are sleeping, oops trying to sleep. If Donnie could put his sleezeball friends out of business also, it would be worth him getting 5 months and being a convicted felon or Donnie is going away from his family for a long time. What would do if you were Donnie Betenbaugh, tell on partners in crime or leave your little children and never see them grow up..Got him and his sleezeball partners..Read the plea agreement he sign and know FBI has him..

This is for the idiot who posted the thing about Bill Randall and his daughter. Say what you wish about Bill, but leave his daughter out if it.
Besides, I'm sure you don't know her so stop speculating about her feelings for her father! You get on here and talk about how you feel sorry
for the kids in all that is going on then you get on here and talk about his daughter! That's B.S. and you know it. You know this site could easily be used positively but pretty much all that I've read on here are a bunch of jellybacks talking junk about these men that "Did Union Wrong" but if you was to see them in the streets I'm sure you would be LOCKJAW!! Probably even shake their hands and buy em a drink!! In other words, most of you people are just hypocrites! Anyway, back to my main point--LEAVE HIS DAUGHTER OUT OF IT, or for that matter any of the children that are indirectly involved in all of this. One more thing, are you people ever gonna let it be and move on to something else? I've been reading the same thing over and over and over.....It is what it is......That's all I have to say....213

CIVIC CENTER SHOULD NOT BE BUILT AT THIS TIME

I hope everyone will consider the pros and cons of a civic center. Maybe Mike Stevens will bring it up on WBCU. I have listened to him bring up some issues on the radio the last few days and say that I am somewhat open to the idea that Mike can be reasoned with. While I have felt he has sugar coated some information I believe he may take another look at issues and be more open minded. I heard some man say there was a problem with a jail that Benteabaugh had built. Whether this is true or not can be explored but at least questions were asked and it was not just brushed under the rug. So Mike let us list some pros and cons to the civic center. Don't let the folks off easy. When they say it will bring
folks to Union make them explain their position. Just because you build it doesn't mean they will come. We need to see if we can afford it and how much it will cost to build, maintain, and revenue that it will generate. Until these questions are answered a civic center should not be built. Come on Mike, lets change the world for the better.

Does anyone remember when Morgan was sentenced the UDT reported that he may get his sentenced reduced if his further cooperation resulted in convictions of others. As for as Donnie's plea deal goes, sounds like there is more to it than who got the biggest cut. And remember there are the other drug charges pending. I think we need to wait and see what comes out. I personally thought 600 years was excessive but 5 months is to lite. I think 5-10 years would have been appropriate. I just wonder who is going to fail the polygraph test.

HAVE FAITH IN GOD THAT HE WILL CONTINUE TO WATCH OVER US

As I have stated before I believe strongly the Lord will watch over us if we ask him to do so. The Lord has his own way of dealing with the Betenbaugh's of the world. While I believe he deserves 600 years he must now be totally open about his schemes in Union. Who else was a part of his gang? He will have to fess up and name names. Maybe we will learn more this way. He will have just enough taste of the judicial system he won't want to spend another hour in it. The judge has not had his final say either. We should also be "pleased" that this corruption scandal is being addressed. Now if you are sick and tired of this city and county being run in the ground vote out everyone in office next election. The only exception would be Sheriff Taylor and Freddie Gault. These two should still be considered. PS: I did not vote for Taylor but I now highly commend him for the job he is doing but I did vote for Gault and considered these two equally.
2/12/2010
The latest news is that Bruce Morgan has been in Spartanburg since the Betenbaugh guilty plea hearing to testify against the former Supervisor. No word on what his testimony was but it is interesting to know that the former Mayor has been involved in the case.

What goes around comes around! These people that are accused of wronging the people of Union county think they are getting away with their crimes we the people of Union countynneed to rise up and find out how the Feds could mess up so bad and we are supposed to just take the fact they messed up,while these low lifes go free living their life. The people of Union need to write letters or call and make appointments with our leaders all the way to President Obama because we the working people pay their salary and the Federal Investigators are gonna let these crooks go cause they dont want to run their jobs. I used to have faith in the FBI but no more. Just because we are a small town dont mean that we dont work hard for our money. They have taken our livelyhood for years to come.

2/11/2010

Thank you so very much for
your hard work and dedication to making Union better. In light of recent events I honestly ask what are we all fighting so hard for. It seems that no one is really getting justice for all the corruption. They are all still playing the "I'm not totally guilty - I just did a little" or "It was such-n-such that did that look at him not me" Well the corruption was uncovered and someone did it - why not be a man and stand up and take account for your actions. I was sick to my stomach today after reading the plea agreement made between our government and our former County Supervisor. Our court system is proving to me more and more that Justice is only for those who are in the lower society or who don't have enough money to buy their way out. Just recently I read where I man in Jonesville was sentenced to 12 years in prison for running over someone while DUI - yet the man in Greenville who was driving so fast and out of control, drove his car into a man's house killing the man went free. The same is true in our County - I feel so disgusted - none of these men have been punished for their actions - they are getting off free or a slap on the hand - if given a chance they would do the same thing again! Where is Justice?
